Age Of Empires 2 Definitive Edition Taunts
Age of Empires 2 is strangely still going strong after all these years. For many, it’s a huge source of nostalgia, a history lesson and a fun game to boot.
For others, Age of Empires 2 is a significant competitive game that should be taken seriously. Regardless of why you play, knowing the best and most fun maps is mandatory.
Can't hear my own taunts in multiplayer lobby/game (definitive edition) As title suggests, I can hear other people's taunts in multiplayer games but when I type the number it just sends the number. I've checked that the disable taunts button is off but still have the problem. Yes, Age of Empires 2: Definitive Edition has all the cheat codes of the original game and you can go to town with these if you wish. Cheats allow you to quickly bump up your resources, instantly create special units that can destroy pretty much any other unit or building with a single attack, or win immediately no matter how bad the situation.
These maps are the best due to multiple reasons but overall, for the general player, they should be playing them the most.
For anyone who has the problem that the taunts don't work, here is a solution i figured out. Note: This works only for taunts that doesn't replace the main taunts. 1.Find a taunt pack that already works (i dont know how to do this if you got no working pack). Here’s the top 10 best maps in Age of Empires 2!
10. Highland
This map is great because the only water source is slap bang in the middle of the map with the players on either side. This river is a natural defense with just a single river path connecting the two sides. Players must find this path and fortify it before their opponent can use it. Control of the water is also important as the fish provided is a great source of food.
9. Mediterranean
A large ocean surrounded by land, this map provides awesome land and naval warfare. As players fight for control of the water, they must also look out for flanks and land invasions. It’s quite easy for a player to fortify both flanks with walls and towers, even more so for a team. This map provides a good all-round balance of the different types of strategic warfare.
8. Oasis
Players start this map surrounded by the usual resources, there’s a few brackets of wood surrounding the Town Centers but the main sources are towards the center. There is a small river at the center of the map which is surrounded by large forests. You get plenty of time and resources to build your base at the start but you need to look towards the middle once your local resources run dry. This map provides a different kind of playstyle as you need to defend both your base and your forward base at the center.
7. MegaRandom
Once a community created mod, the MegaRandom map is now part of the Forgotten Empires DLC. It is how its name implies, it generates a completely random map that does not fit a particular ‘theme’. The brilliance of this is incredible as you’ll never truly know what’s coming, giving a surprise to all players and this makes MegaRandom really fun to play.
6. Arena
Perfect for newer players, Arena has open land in the middle which is surrounded by large forests. Players are given a Stone Wall around their base to start off, allowing for new players to build their base without getting destroyed and some great seiging action later on in the game. The forests surrounding the bases provide the players with a ton of resources which, again, is perfect for new players. It’s a great map whether you’re an expert or newbie.
5. Nomad
This map is generated as a desert island with plenty of resources littering the place. The fun lies with the special rules as players start with just 3 villagers that are dotted in random locations. They must find a suitable location to build their base, it’s a race for time as the players quickly try to find the best place to drop their Town Center. This map is not recommended for new players but it’s highly popular with established players.
4. Islands
It’s as simple as it sounds, each player (or team) is given their own island which they must build their base upon and protect from invaders. Mostly focusing on naval warfare, water control is absolutely crucial because if you lose the water, the enemies have free reign over when and how they can land their armies on your shores. The player must build suitable docks and protect them effectively to have a chance. This high level of macro play is popular among all players as it’s great for learning but really fun for those who already know the basics.
3. Arabia
Mostly seen in pro play, Arabia is arguably the most well-balanced map in the entire game. Resources are modest but you still need to manage your economy properly. There is no water so it’s all about the boots-on-the-ground warfare. Wood especially is difficult to manage as there are no big forests, just small brackets here and there. It’s one of the best tactical maps to play and awesome to watch pro players duke it out.
2. Fortress
Similar to Arena, Fortress provides the players with Stone Walls, a Barracks and even 4 Watchtowers from the get-go. Early aggression is definitely not advised, you need to build your base faster than the enemy can build their base, then attack when the time is right. There isn’t much resources in the starting base which means players have to go out into the wilderness to get what they need, this makes raiding a viable tactic. You can also just turtle up and laugh as you repel attack after attack. This is a very fun map to play.
1. Black Forest
Couldn’t really be anything else, could it. Black Forest is legendary among all Age of Empires 2 players for being the best, most fun map to play.
You are given great natural defenses as almost the entire map is covered in trees, this provides a huge amount of resources, way more than you can actually use unless the game lasts for many hours.
This map is spot on for new players as they learn to build, fortify and attack. Experienced players also love this too as the paths connecting the bases provide a fun and unique experience that you can’t get on any other map.

Topic Subject: | Age of Empires II 'no background music' issue 'FIX' (Approved) |
posted 01-02-13 12:46 PM CT (US) This article has been approved and can also be read at the University. - Felix36 INTRODUCTION Greetings, As you know, it is a well known issue that the background music AOK and TC originally shipped with, doesn't work for many people. The reason is that these soundtrack(s) were on the game CD, and older disc drives had the capacity to stream music from the CD while you were playing. Most people nowadays have DVD drives, and these do not have this capability. Also, those of you that own the Collector's Edition will know that the game no longer requires a disc in the drive for you to be able to play, and thus, you won't be able to hear the background music at all. This tutorial aims to fix this problem and allow you to (finally! after all these years!) once again be able to enjoy the full AoE experience, provided you have the soundtrack as an .mp3 file (e.g. a quick scan of your Aoe II CD should yield you the Age of Kings soundtrack). If I am not mistaken, it is a 30 minute long music file. HOW IT WORKS 1. Use Windows Media Player or itunes to rip the soundtrack(s) from the game CD. I did this with both the AOK and AOC soundtracks. If you didn't use Windows Media Player, skip to step 3. 2. Note that WMP will usually create .wma files, so use a free audio converter to convert them to .mp3 format. There are tons out there on the net. 3. Now, *IF* you have more than 1 .mp3 file (the conquerors soundtrack for example doesnt come bundled as a 30 minute audio track, but as multiple songs), then you will need a program to combine all of them into 1 track. The free program I recommend is WavePad Sound Editor - you just need to drag and drop the music files one after the other into the program's main window, then for each track, select everything, and cut and paste it into the first music track, that way creating a huge 'combined' track, which you can then save in the default lossless .wav format, and then convert it to .mp3. 4. Assign the resulting single file a number like you would for a custom taunt file. I named it '50 AOK Track'.mp3 5. You need to move this file into the /Taunt folder in your Age of Empires II main game directory, and then when you launch a game and you can see your villagers and town center, you hit the enter button to open up the chat window, and there, type the number '50' (without the quotation marks) and hit enter again. The soundtrack will start playing and it will stop when you exit the game and return to the main menu. Unfortunately, changing the music volume in the options menu will not change the volume of the soundtrack (since it is a taunt file, after all), and it is a bit louder than the average villager's voice, but at least this 'fix' is better than the usual 'home remedy' where you played the soundtrack from your media player and then quickly switched back to the game, right? (it would play all over your main menu, the victory/loss screen etc.) And with Windows Vista, 7 and 8 also requiring you to kill explorer.exe to prevent the weird colour bug, keeping your media player application open is even harder. ANYWAYS....long story short, remember that once the whole soundtrack has finished playing, hit enter again and type 50 again and it will start from the beginning once more. TL; DR - INSTALLATION PATH STEP 1: Copy the '50 AOK Track' .mp3 file to the following location: For 32-bit Windows OS users: C:Program FilesMicrosoft GamesAge of Empires IITauntC:Program Files (x86)Microsoft GamesAge of Empires IITaunt For 64-bit Windows OS users: C:Program Files (x86)Microsoft GamesAge of Empires IITaunt ....i.e. the Taunt folder in your Age of Empires II directory. STEP 2: When you start a new game, open the chat window by hitting the enter button, and then type 50 and hit the enter button again. STEP 3: Have fun playing AoE with background music! warm regards, Sir Arun from AoK Heaven [This message has been edited by Felix36 (edited 01-27-2013 @ 06:24 AM).] | |

posted 03-12-13 06:50 PM CT (US) 4 / 11 Yes, Userpatch 1.1 is the best solution. What you say about DVD drives not being able to stream CD audio is not true. All 4 DVD-RW drives and 1 DVD-ROM I had on different computers were capable of doing that. I even use a virtual Blu-ray drive now with a disc image of the game and it plays the music in both AOE1&2 perfectly. The only thing you need is the disc to be in the first CDDVD drive (as a letter). Example: if you have 2 CD/DVD drives - F: and G:, the disc must be in F:. To change drive letters of your physical or virtual CDDVD drives: right click on My Computer, select Manage->Disc Management, right click on the letter and select Change drive letter and paths. posted 02-26-14 08:21 PM CT (US) 6 / 11 Where is located the file that I need to rip? Edit: I need the first question, anyway when I have an mp3 file when I press type 50, the game crashes says 'AOE not response' (I don't know how is in english). Suggest? posted 02-26-14 10:32 PM CT (US) 7 / 11 You rip the files from the game CD like you would rip music from any other music CD. This method won't work if you don't have the game CD. There should be one long music file that is ripped. This is the file that you make into an mp3 file and rename to '50 AOK Track'. ~`o´~|Join the fresh and exciting AI Ladder for its fourth season! ´ ` |_ |Learn the joy of AI scripting in my guide: The World of AI Scripting ______|______ /.....Hinga Dinga Durgen! - SpongeBob `-=<.__.>=-´ |
Aoe 2 Taunt List
posted 02-27-14 05:26 AM CT (US) 8 / 11 The music is not a file, it's an audio track recorded directly on the original AOE2/AoC CD. You can use a program like CDex to convert the audio track to mp3. If you have AOE Collector's Edition DVD, then there are no audio tracks on the disc, but part of the music is included in the form of .wav files in a folder on the DVD. You can also convert them to mp3. This 'fix' is obsolete! You don't need to use taunts every time you play. Just use UserPatch and press 'Music' button in UserPatch installer, then select the mp3 files you want to be played. This way the music will be played properly, just like the original CD music. posted 04-17-14 02:28 AM CT (US) 9 / 11 I had a question, is there anyway I can have a custom soundtrack play while playing Age of Empires? And I mean having it replace the original soundtrack. I'd assume it's not possible being hardcoded in the CD but it's worth a shot. |
