  • Flow: The Psychology of Optimal Experience Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi. Psychologist Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi's famous investigations of 'optimal experience' have revealed that what makes an experience genuinely satisfying is a state of consciousness called flow. During flow, people typically experience deep enjoyment, creativity, and a total.
  • What constitutes enjoyment of life? Optimal Experience: Psychological Studies of Flow in Consciousness offers a comprehensive survey of theoretical and empirical investigations of the 'flow' experience, a desirable or optimal state of consciousness that enhances a person's psychic state.

General Content: Flow (the book) is a wonderfully detailed treatise on optimal human performance and experience. I’ve read a good chunk of it and found it to be a very interesting and pragmatic concept. However, Flow (the audiobook) is an extremely abridged very of the book that I didn’t think adequately captured the ideas in the book.

This is one of those classic business/personal growh books that everyone has to read. Before listening to this book, I had heard about the concept of flow and seen this book mentioned in countless other books. Flow is that state of mind you reach when you are doing something you love and no longer are aware of other things, like time. Sort of like browsing goodreads and adding books to your shelf, then looking at your watch and realizing - Yikes! It's past 1 in the morning... ( )

Worth reading as a refresher. I like that its Short, however there is nothing that new(others have copied it) It is what has been said many times, do whatever it is you do well and that in itself is the reward. ( )

This is a two-hour discussion by the author on 'flow', as discussed in his book. It is produced by Nightingale-Conant, and is very much in the 'self-help' genre. The author discusses the behavioral steps necessary to attain 'flow' and states how acquiring these 'habits' will enhance one's inner life.
The reverse may be closer to the truth: those who have the inner state of 'flow' exhibit the traits the author discusses. It is not certain that the inner state is achieved by developing these traits. 'Flow' is more than a 'self-help' instruction! ( )
